The job set is narrow: sofas through doorways, MDF cabinets up ramps, boxed flat-pack units, metal bed frames, glass-top tables and wrapped display pieces. That means the glove has to hold on to smooth surfaces without making the hand clumsy. A sensible factory spec usually sits around EN 388 3131X for lighter handling or 4142X when the buyer wants more abrasion and tear resistance. EN ISO 21420 is the basic general requirement for glove design and sizing, but it does not tell you much about moving performance by itself. For this category, sandy nitrile on a nylon or polyester liner is usually the safest all-round choice because it grips better on shrink film, lacquered chipboard and powder-coated tube than smooth PU. 1. Best all-round choice: 13 gauge sandy nitrile palm gloves

The sandy finish matters because it keeps friction when the surface carries cardboard dust, stretch film residue or a little moisture from wet hands and cleaning sprays. On glossy furniture panels, a smooth foam coating can feel comfortable at first, but it loses bite faster when the load shifts or the hand twists on a corner. The common production spec is a grey or black 13 gauge nylon or polyester liner, black sandy nitrile palm, elastic knit wrist and a seamless shell. Depending on palm coating thickness and liner density, lab results often sit in the EN 388 3131X to 4142X range, but no honest factory should promise a code without test reports for that exact build. This style fits warehouse movers, office fit-out crews, removal companies and retail delivery teams because it gives enough dexterity for trolley handles, ratchet straps, appliance straps and corner protectors. For private label buyers, the practical MOQ is often 3,000 to 10,000 pairs per colourway, depending on yarn stock, coating compound and size curve. Ask for a grip test on shrink wrap, melamine board and painted steel tube, not just a catalogue image.
2. Best for lighter touch and cleaner presentation: 15 gauge PU or micro-foam nitrile
When the job is more about placement than rough lifting, 15 gauge PU or micro-foam nitrile gloves are the cleaner, more dexterous option. These are useful for installers moving display cabinets, flat-pack desks, soft furnishings and wrapped decor pieces where the crew needs fingertip control for hinges, shelf pins, cable routing and final positioning. A 15 gauge nylon shell sits closer to the hand than a 13 gauge shell, so it usually gives better feel for Allen keys, hinges and small brackets. PU has a neat look and can feel precise, but it is less forgiving than nitrile when the load is dusty or slightly damp. Micro-foam nitrile is usually the better compromise when the same glove must handle both clean placement and occasional lifting. The common factory build is 15 gauge nylon with a PU palm for lighter work, or 15 gauge nylon with micro-foam nitrile for slightly tougher handling. For buying decisions, test the glove on a veneer sideboard, a boxed TV cabinet and a glass shelf frame before approving the artwork.
3. Best for rough timber, straps and demolition carry-out: split leather or hybrid palm gloves
If the job includes broken pallets, sharp timber edges, strap cut-in or demolition carry-out after furniture removal, split leather or a hybrid leather-palm glove becomes the sensible choice. This is the point where indoor moving stops being clean handling and starts becoming rough carry. A split cowhide palm gives better abrasion tolerance against staple tails, splintered timber and metal banding than a thin knit-dip glove. The trade-off is real: leather is less precise around buckles, trolley brakes and small fixings, and it feels heavier in warm indoor work. Leather and knit-dip gloves are different production lines. Leather needs panel cutting, stitching, grading and more manual inspection, so lead time is usually longer than for a standard coated glove. A common rough-carry build is split cowhide palm with cotton or polyester back and a safety cuff or rubberised cuff for easier on-off. That is useful for stair carries, skip loading and back-of-house breakdown, but it is not the best choice for showroom installation or final placement of polished furniture. If a buyer asks for cut resistance from leather alone, that is the wrong brief; the better route is a tested cut-resistant liner with a coated palm.
4. Best for glass, mirrors and lacquered panels: cut-resistant coated gloves
Furniture moving becomes more serious when the load includes mirrors, glass shelves, lacquered tabletops or framed panels. In that case, the right glove is usually not a padded mover glove but a cut-resistant coated glove with HPPE or glass fibre in the liner and a nitrile or PU palm. A practical starting point is a 13 gauge HPPE blend with sandy nitrile palm. Depending on the yarn blend, coating structure and test method, the glove may reach levels such as EN 388 4X42C or 4X43D, but the exact score must come from the actual lab result for the sample, not from a sales sheet. This type is suitable for delivery teams handling built-in wardrobes with glass doors, retail fit-out crews placing display cabinets and removal teams carrying framed art or mirrored furniture. It is not the best choice for simple carton moving because cut gloves are usually stiffer and less breathable than general handling gloves. Buyers also need to separate hand protection from lift method: a glove does not replace glass suckers, frame clamps or correct team lifting.
5. What to check before you place an OEM order
The most common mistake is choosing by appearance instead of by task list. Before placing an OEM order, check six things: liner gauge, coating type, cuff style, EN 388 target, colour coding and pack-out. Gauge is simple. 13 gauge usually gives a more robust shell, while 15 gauge gives a finer fit and better fingertip control. Coating should match the handling problem: sandy nitrile for grip, PU for lighter handling, split leather for rough carry and HPPE blend with nitrile for sharp edges. Cuff style matters too. A knit wrist helps keep dust out, while a safety cuff is easier to pull on and off for crews that change gloves many times a day. On the commercial side, a standard sample is usually 7 to 14 days if yarn, coating and test yarn are already available, while bulk production is often 30 to 45 days after sample approval depending on yarn dyeing, palm compound and packaging. For carton planning, a common export pack is 12 pairs per polybag and 120 pairs per carton, but that changes with size spread, retail requirements and carton strength. Ask for the incoterm, carton dimensions, gross weight and inspection level before you approve the order.
6. How to choose the right glove by task, not by title
The cleanest buying method is to match the glove to the actual handling problem. For sofa and cabinet moves, use a 13 gauge sandy nitrile glove because bulk handling and grip matter most. For display furniture, shelves and final placement, use 15 gauge PU or micro-foam nitrile because the crew needs finer control around fixings and finished surfaces. For rough carry-outs, stair demolition and timber-framed waste removal, use split leather or a hybrid glove because abrasion resistance matters more than touch sensitivity. For glass, mirrors and sharp panel edges, move to an EN 388-tested cut-resistant coated glove with HPPE or glass fibre in the liner. It keeps the range tight, avoids overbuying bulky winter styles and accepts that a removal team does not do one task all day. If the brief asks for insulated, chemical, impact and cut resistance in one glove, that is four different risks forced into one product. For furniture moving, the better answer is usually a two-glove programme rather than one overbuilt SKU.
